When it comes to unhappiness, the root causes for 99% of people stem from the “big three”:
Their Financial Situation
Their Physical and Mental Health
These three areas of life are the main causes of human suffering worldwide. They are also areas of life that rarely have a permanent solution. However, making these areas a top priority in your life will make things a lot easier for you. And the secret to having the most control over these areas is wisdom.
In life, it is extremely easy to damage your financial, relationship and health situation. In fact, much of the world economy is designed to destroy these areas of your life, then charge you money to fix them. The pattern of building you up, breaking you down and then building you back up again is what consumerism is based on. Thus, you will always get conflicting, hypocritical and contradictory messages about how to manage the “big three” in your life.
What many people don’t realize is the “big three” are all connected to each other. Let’s discuss in more detail:
Money is considered both the “root of all evil” and the “root of all comfort”. Those with more access to money simply have more options in life. They have better access to healthcare, enjoy higher social status, more romantic and sexual options, and greater choice in lifestyle. In short, money is the ticket to freedom.
Yet, you will still hear people say “money can’t buy happiness”. And this is completely true. There are many rich and wealthy people who live depressed lives and even end up committing suicide. Thus, money has its limitations. Simply having money does not mean you are using it wisely. Which is why, once again, wisdom is so important to your overall well-being.
Having money, at the very least, will still give a person more choices. Therefore, they will have more opportunities to live a healthy life. Without money, a person has few options. They have to depend on others more and they might have less access to healthy food, good healthcare and positive people. A very bad financial situation can destroy your physical and mental health and damage your relationships.
Our relationships with others can be sources of joy or sources of misery. Great relationships can empower us, lift us up, and enrich our lives in ways we never expected. But toxic relationships can destroy our lives, depress us, drag us down and even kill us.
In many cases, relationships are not always a choice. You might be forced to associate with toxic people due to your work, school or family situation. When you don’t have the power to leave a bad relationship, it can take its toll on your mental and physical health over time. Furthermore, it can damage you financially as well.
The toxic people in your life might steal from you or convince you do waste your money on things that damage you. They might also become jealous and try to sabotage your success and happiness with bad advice and various forms of emotional abuse. Ultimately, bad relationships can destroy your mental health, which can then destroy your physical health.
Physical and Mental Health
The most challenging area of life out of the “big three” to keep in harmony is your physical and mental health. This is because so much of your physical and mental health depends on your environment, the people around you, your age and your genetics. In other words, it is less within your control than the other two.
Going your entire life without a single physical health problem or episode of emotional pain is basically impossible. Everyone gets sick and injured at various times in their lives. The degree of this can have a major impact on other areas of your life. Very poor physical health can damage your mental health, destroy you financially, and harm your relationships.
The Big Three Are All Connected
People who live the happiest lives are best able to keep the “big three” in harmony. They cut off toxic relationships, they control their finances, and they prioritize a healthy lifestyle. However, this is easier said than done, since there is so much bad information out there.
True wisdom is what allows people to filter the input they receive from the world and make the best choices for their own well-being. Wisdom is the key to everything.
